Following on from my first post in the Newbies section http://www.penturners.co.uk/introduce-yourself-penturners-forum/5226-good-evening-all.html I wondered if anyone else made christmas decorations?

Below is a small sample of the few I've made to date. I make them for fun more than anything, but everyone who sees them tells me I should be selling them.

The thing is, as Neil has already alluded to, could I make any money out of it? The small acrylic ones cost about £4 in materials, the larger ones about £5. Obviously the slimmer ones and wooden ones (there is one in there, from mahogany I think) are generally offcuts and thus much cheaper. But you can see, it might be difficult to make a profit.

Just wondered if anyone else had experience of making and selling these?

Have you tried these? They are "inside out" ornaments.

I wanted to try them and I bought a few kits but I am not sure which blanks to use and, as you say, the cost per item means they would need to retail at a price that will likely put people off. Either that or the margin wouldn't be profitable

The involuted ornaments that Sharon showed are far more creative and they will sell much easier, also you can make the so they are quite light and have something sitting in the middle.

Do a search on google for involuted turning or maybe even on youtube. You may find a xmas ornament, but if not you will get the idea of how it is done. Involuted turning is very creative and lots of fun and tears can be had doing it.

Very nice Robert but at the price you would have to charge to cover material costs plus your time and overheads I think you'd struggle to sell them. Good work though.
