I've seen a few turnings of birds on the internet, so I thought I'd do one myself for a bit of fun. He's called Pingue and stands about 5 inches tall

That is great and as you say it was just a bit of fun. Sometimes it just gives you a break from the normal bowls, pens and the like.

So much fun created with skill George . Did you use a Golf Tee for the beak? Neat detail in the burning and feet.

Hi Peter, the beak does look like a golf tee but it is turned from wood. I flattened the sides a little with my dremel.
