Nice try, nice attitude, nice idea BUT before you paint you should finish properly; so the gouge just below the hole for the string should not be there, the tool chatter between each dip should be removed ie paint a perfect piece you will get a perfectly painted piece.

Notwithstanding what people say now is the right time to prepare for Christmas.

A good exercise to practice your spindle turning all the little faults will soon disappear don't be put off and try for a set of ten then look at them and throw away the worst ones. have fun and enjoy the process as well as the fun in decorating them.

Try turning them the other way around as you will find it easier to get to all the rings and taper to the tip of the decoration. leaving the hanging area as thick as possible until you have completed the bottom section then reduce so that you can part off the top and drill the hole when finished.

Hi Kevin, other small projects to have a go at, honey dippers, eggcups, eggs and goblets, it's good fun. The end is listless. :thumbs::thumbs:

I used to work in a Christmas Cracker factory, if they weren't delivered to stores by the end of July it was too late :noway1:

A good way to learn tool control Kevin. Practice, practice & more practice. Make a few more & you'll gain confidence & get better.
Like Derek I would make the ornaments the other way round with the bottom towards the tail stock to give more freedom for your tool work.
