If I stand at the lathe all morning my legs get a bit tired so I've been looking for something that I can do while sitting down in the afternoons that keeps me in the workshop and dealing with wood. I decided to have a go at carving a netsuke.
Here's a few picture of my first attempt. It is supposed to be a crane guarding its egg, which it is clutching in its claw.
I'm calling it Clarence the cross-eyed crane, you can see why.

It was a bit of fun but really time consuming.
