A couple of weeks ago I posted a pic of my very first box with lid and finial, (picture at the bottom)

which is the Woodturning club challenge for Jan.. the nice comments suggested my finial was a bit small... So here is V2:

I'm knew to turning, so can't comment on boxes, but I don't think anyone can accuse you of having a small finial this time.

Nice piece, I hope you do well.

Kind regards

Craig

The new one looks a better shape but to me the lid and bottom of the finial are too angular for the body maybe a smoother line from body to finial top would have been better. You still have done well I would keep this and look back in a year or so and see how your designs have moved on.
The problem is that I tend to look at things being one of the judges at our club. I try not to offend but just point out what I see

Hi Derek

Thanks I am not offended at all... thats what your club activity is all about for us newbies to be able to have a go at something we might not choose to try, to learn from the experience and to get advice from those with much more knowledge.

Yep, the new finial is definitely an improvement Kevin. Have you ever googled Cindy Drozda? She is the undisputed queen of finials (and boxes)
