Well sort of true but I've been wanting to make a set of gates for some time and as I work with the door open and the dog likes to see what's going on in the world I have until now needed to tie her up.

I made these just from softwood ( ex 9" x 3" ) I've had for a very long time so when they rot eventually I'll need to buy proper timber like larch or oak. They were a hell of a lot more work than I expected though as paid only £40 for the hardware which was the job total I'm happy. At least until the missus forgets to open them before she drives out that is. :thinks:

The pictures are upside down from where I’m looking. Did you take the pictures on a tablet or phone?

:funny::funny:

On my screen they're the right way up unless you click on them when they turn upside down.

I used my iphone and they're always upside down 'cos that's the most comfortable way to hold the phone but I resized and corrected in paint on the PC before posting.

Anyway, can you lazy lot not just turn your heads to look.

Looking in and out they should do the job Bob. Precious dog will feel happy now,you can relax, pain in the bum every time using gates but well worth it. Like the design.

medium size black labrador Mark, guess she could get through but too lazy and no chance of jumping over. She just like to stick her head through to see who or what is passing by, Not much happens though as we're in a very quiet cul de sac.

Nice job Bob. I made some gates from treated softwood about 15 years ago, and they're still going strong, despite the Highland weather and far less substantial hardware than you've used - so I don't think you're going to have to rush out for that oak just yet.

(I would turn your photos around for you, but they're the right way up on my screen):thinks:

I guessed that’s what you’d done. Lots of folks hold their phone or tablet upside down. The lens needs to be at the top when you take a picture whether in landscape or portrait.

I like to use my iPad with the home button on the left, this puts the lens on the bottom so I always flip my iPad the other way round when taking pictures.

Editing on a PC sounds a bother. I just crop and adjust on my phone or iPad then upload, no need to resize.

Yeah my iphone is in a wallet type case so I have to flip open the front cover and its handy to hold that so I know I'm doing it wrong. I move pics on to the laptop anyway to keep phone memory free and archive what I want so editing them there is easy enough.

I'm just on the edge of needing reading specs for close work so it's a pain to edit on the phone tbh.

Did you scorch the timber or just stain it Bob?
Scorching makes it a lot more water repellent.

Now you tell me :rolling:

It's had 3 coats of thin timber preservative Neil with a lot more on the top rail and end grain which just soaked it up. Anyway you know I'm ancient so doesn't need to last long to outlive me. :funny::sob:

We took the caravan to Galloway week before last, wanted to come to York but the main caravan sites were full otherwise you might have had a visit from Sue, me and the mad dog, actually she's quite placid nowadays,- the dog I mean
