This is my first piece after setting up my diy vacuum chamber. Had a load of punky spalted beech- so stabilised and dyed a few pieces which are now super dense and perfect for turning.
Ive finished this in Rustins plastic coating which I decided to try after using mostly melamine lacquer and I have to say I don't think I will be going back. The plastic coating polishes up like glass - crystal clear and more forgiving to work with than melamine as it has a longer cure time- I just brushed it on and it self-levels beautifully - highly recommend this stuff to anyone who hasn't tried it.

That's a really beautiful ring Ian, thanks for the info on the finish. I might give that a whirl.:thumbs:
