Well today was different!!

Some who know me, know I work at a school, I am head of the maintenance dept. We now have these things called "Well being days" to encourage development.....in my day it was called a 'pi**about' day but we move on. We are also on trend with a 'Wilderness school's area. Somebody thought it would be a good idea to incorporate these and have a few wildlife projects done by/ with the children.....mine is below......I had 10 children aged 12 to amuse for an hour, with the pleasures of building an Owl boxIMG_20181102_134555.jpg
I think the results are OK it needs a little fettling as this was mostly done with hand tools, but their eyes did light up when I got the Airgun out to staple it together.
My first and last venture into teaching, hats off to those who do this for a living, you don't just need eyes in the back of your head but all round!!
Time for a beer and a sleep.....it was a looooong hour!!

That’s very interesting Mark, I too work at a school as senior joiner in the maintenance department, but I never “interact” with the pupils.
Perhaps we should start a thread asking who does what as a day job, I know a lot of the elderly gentlemen on here are retired, ( I’m pretty close myself.) but what about the “young ones?”:thumbs::thinks::thinks:

My trade is a painter and decorator but I also do a bit of teaching / instructing in a high school. I teach my trade as well as a few other bits and bobs

As far age I'm kind of in the middle. It was my 50th in July.

I still see through age 15yr eyes ageism proves youth is wasted on the young. My latest project still under way is to have a bog garden at the entrance to my workshop on the right hand side for my Carnivorous plants. I bought a fibreglass bath. Received a bale of Peat Moss last night now ready to make the mix and transplant some of my best plants into it. Making best use of a large trellis (the rungs were getting too far apart for me anyway. Another stand on the left hand side shown.

Peter.

I used to teach part time on a Friday at tech college I.T in the morning and architectural drawing in the afternoon.Class of 15 students 17-18 year olds, most on block release, some full timers.
I enjoyed it really but they were a real handful and apart from the full time students they were used to finishing work at lunchtime on Fridays so I wasn't popular as I kept them until 4pm.

Wouldn't want to do it full time.
