Finally had a go at making a pen with snakeskin. It is from a watersnake which are from north America I think? The skin itself is from the 1960's.
This is the first time I have worked with snakeskin but it was relatively easy, I just had to mount the skin onto leather first as the skins are quite thin.

Sirocco is Black Titanium with Rhodium accents.

Nice looking pen and an usual covering for a pen. It feels textured to hold and not to smooth. The pen kit goes well with the snake skin.

Did you glue the leather to the blank followed by the snakeskin?
Would that not leave a seam running down its length?

Fantastic looking pen.

Wonderful photography as well

Hi Gary thank you, Yes, there is always a seam, I glued the snakeskin to the leather first, I then cut the leather to the exact size it needs to be to fit around the tube so that the edges meet perfectly, I prick the stitch holes ready for sewing, I then glue the leather to the tube and sew it. That's the short 'how to' version :funny:
Here's another pic, you can can just see the seam between the cross stitches

I think that stitching would make a great feature on the front, it looks good :drool:

Yes I agree, it is a shame to hide the stitches under the clip, the only reason I put the seam on the clip side is because I thought the stitched side would irritate the hand when writing with it, I think I will make a few to test them out and perhaps offer that option to customers.
