Does anyone know of a good (reasonably priced) source for Minwax Water based polyurethane? I want to try the dipping method. I've looked online and it seems hellishly expensive and appears to ship from the US.

I think you may be right Derek. It only seems to show up on the likes of eBay and Amazon, and it's a small fortune. My guess is that there isn't a UK distributor.

Furthermore I think it has to be shipped never flown. I believe its sold over here by Bunnings.

Peter.
Thanks Peter I'll check them out too in case they ship to the UK and if it's any cheaper from AUS.

Hi Peter, looked at Bunnings over there and no Minwax products. Thanks for trying to help though.

We’ve had a similar conversation about this before. There’s most likely a very similar product commonly available over here, it’s just a matter of identifying it.

Try contacting Terry at Chestnut Products he may be able to say if there is anything near it.

Or try Bunnings stores to see if they will stock it here.

I will try one of the other products if I can't get it and I'll let everybody know how I went on.

Have a look at the John stones poly

Quick Dry Polyurethane Floor Varnish - Johnstone's Trade Paints

I have the minwax and also some johnstones as well. It's what I use on my boxes. Dries quickly as well..

It's is very similarly to minwax and won't bother buying any more minwax TBH.

Go on, I know it's only large 2.5 l tins available..

Derek, I wanted to try the Minwax but was put off by the price, then I saw Phil's written tutorial on how He applies Melamine lacquer and Carnauba wax. I read it, re read it then I spent £50 to buy all the gear. It is very quick to apply (5 minutes) and the results are really great, a smooth satin finish that feels natural and not plastic. I use it most of the time now, I only use CA when sealing water slide decals. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it.:thumbs:

I've got the stuff for Phil's melamine finish, I don't know about you but I find customers always go for the pens with a super high gloss finish.
