Melamine finishes on pens.

Dissolve Melamine scraps in Acetone and using this is a beaut finish. DEclaration info from a long time maker and user. Do not proceed unless precautions are taken re fumes etc.

From the IAP Russ Fairfields recipe Equal quantities of Brushing Lacquer...(Watco).
Tung Oil or BLO (Boiled Linseed Oil) or,WAlnut Oil.
Lacquer THinner.

Make small quantities and use small squeeze Bottles. SAme caution use care as you should with CA etc.
