Congratulations to Gregory Hardy for his winning pen http://www.penturners.co.uk/acrylic...-ebonite-nickel-silver.html?highlight=ebonite in this week's Pen of the Week.

All pens posted on the forum since last Sunday morning will be eligible for POTW6, which will be opened for voting next Sunday, so please keep your pens coming everyone. Each and every one of us has an equal chance of winning - and in the meantime, Greg's pen features on the Forum's front page, where it will stay until the next winner is decided

Thanks, gents! In truth, I actually started this pen to keep for my own pocket. (That's why it's a Bock #5 and an italic nib.) Then I started working on it...and it got a little fancier than I really wanted for a everyday-carry pen. Guess this one will go in the case and I will start again! Thank you again for the positive remarks. I appreciate it.

OK so I have to ask, if you made this for everyday use then why don't you use it for that? I can understand someone being given it as a gift & not wanting to use it for fear of spoiling it but you made it so it's not like you couldn't make another or am I looking at this all wrong lol

Oh great looking pen by the way

No, I get it, Martin, and you are absolutely right. It just ended up a little more "showy" than I want hanging out of my flannel shirt pocket when I am at the lumber yard. (You know how those guys talk.)
:winking:
Truthfully, I ended up with a finial that is taller compared to the location of the clip than I originally planned. I wear a lot of shirts with flap pockets (less sawdust in my pockets at the end of the day) and - from a practicality standpoint - a clip closer to the end of the cap will just serve me better. ("Military-style" clips from the War Era Parkers are examples, and for the same purpose.) But you convinced me...so I will likely carry it for a while "just because I can!" Thanks for bringing me back from the dark side. In fact, I think it will get some Beaufort Scots Pine green ink right now!

At a market recently a young fellow has a regular stall. I offered him hundreds of surplus to me pen blanks. To write his my phone number on his card he reached for a ball point it partly failed so out with the fountain pen in his pocket,it wrote freely. I liked his set up complete with demo lathe and his Mum helping him.Cheerful all round.

There are certainly "real world applications" wherein a fountain pen is not practical. Since I have retired, however, I have decided that if I "can't write it with the fountain pen I carry," then I "will not write it" at all. I have discovered that I am happier as a result. Wish I'd made that decision years ago!
