    First attempt with this medium

Recently I got sent a 1mm thick piece of synthetic opal to try to incorporate into a pen. 1mm is the thickness of the opal rings at the ends, though I found it really difficult to set into the sides lengthwise. It took careful measuring, though I'm sure there may be a better way. The sparkle...

    Pipe stand/rack

Made this for some of my pipes. Black stinkwood (ocotea bullata). It is actually a lot darker than the pictures. Flash must have done that. The side view is a lot closer to the real colour. Black stinkwood is protected and difficult to get. This wood came from a recycled dresser. Still got a...

Looks quite good. Not too difficult to make if you have the tools? https://www.pennstateind.com/library/PKMBLBX_INS.pdf

    Definitely not pens.

A couple of carvings recently finished from my box of part done projects., using my set of Pfeil palm gouges. Old Smokey Joe in boxwood stands about 250mm high and the frog about 110mm long in what I think was a bit of walnut burr, whatever it is I found it very difficult to work and really...

    Wenge

I stopped in Yandles last week as I was driving past and picked up a couple pieces of Wenge. I tried turning it but the finish I ended up with was terrible. I re-sanded it and tried everything... but I could not get it looking good at all. Is this a difficult wood to turn and finish ?

Has anyone done this, i saw a pine cone cast in resin that was then turned into a little lidded box, it looked beautiful. Just wondering is anyone has done this and what resin they used. Have seen some US vids on youtube but get the resin they use seems to be a bit difficult.

    Work in process

A neighbor of a fellow turner sold 100+ trees to a veneer company. They take the trunks and leave the rest. The bowl is 15" diameter. Pics are the inside and bottom. Even though it is green it was by far the hardest most difficult piece of wood I have ever turned. Almost 2 hours to rough...

    Sketch Pencil with Burr Oak

I made a PSI sketch pencil for my Granddaughter to take to her new school for art lessons. I was surprised that you have to CA the plunger in, which makes it difficult or near impossible to strip the pen down again. Peter
