Good day, I am completely new to woodturning. I have just purchased a midi lathe, and have been busy setting it up, but as yet have not turned anything. I’m keen to get into pen turning, but not sure which mandrel to go for. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

This was supposed to be for me but I don't like it so will probably sell it on where I go to fish. Specifically I think the tiger bamboo is too fussy on a kit with that much detail and maybe should be a much plainer wood or even antler or horn.
