Hi all thanks for letting me join. My name is Tom and I'm from Northern Ireland and have just started learning wood turning. Unfortunately I don't have my own lathe, but at present I am currently learning the different tools. Trying to get the touch with a roughing gouge but get it started OK...

    Yet another steep learning curve

Whilst I was banned woodworking etc following a heart op I spent many hours flat on my back surfing the net and you tube and decided that once I got back in the workshop I would have a go at bandsaw boxes. (Also I was getting bored with pens … Heresy I know). So in order of learning and many...

    Bandsaw box

I quite like these bandsaw boxes. This one isn’t what I’d class as good but I’m treating it as a learning curve. The next one will be better

    .300 mags

Hi all as per the title these are the first of these...... Two .300mag Holland and Holland cases fitted with a twist mech and a Cross mini refill ( see I am learning). Another great learning curve with these..... don't use too much CA to bond the bottom tube.....it squeezed out and went...

    3rd pen 4th pen attempt

Zebra and cherry, doesn't mix well, I used charcoals toothpaste as a finish before ca coat as it's a light abrasive. The black went in the grains and gave a lovely effect. Unfortunetly the woods didn't work together. Its a slow learning process. I've nearly used my first set of slim lines up...

    A fancy slimline pencil.

Well turned this fancy slimline pencil using walnut I think. Finished with thin CA glue, really enjoying the learning and practicing. Am going to try a melamine finish on my next attempt!!! Sorry the pic isn't clearer but will sort that for next post!!

    Hollow Beech Bowl

Just finished this one today made from Beech and measures 5" X 4". I had the pyrography machine last November as a Birthday present and have not used it that much, so it was a learning curve for me not just in its use but making my own curly wire shape.

    Learning curve

First time really turning acrylic. Still learning. Don't like the clock pen, big chunk of brown at the end near clip but shows whitish instead of light brown in the picture. In my mind its a poor blank should be blue the full length, but who am I to judge. Glen:wink::wink:

    Hello

Hello everyone, I'm Graham and have been turning for about a year (well, I own a lathe). I just love to make things, usually for the grandchildren and for Christmas presents. I have made about 20 pens and thought I was getting the hang of finishing - but I always seem to find new challenges...
