Hello turners! I'm Sorin, from Romania! Fairly new in wood turning, I'm glad to find such community and looking forward to learn from you and share may passion with you!
Well Hello Sorin, I know a Sorin from Romania...:thinks:

Hope to see some of your work on here so we can all learn from you. Nice part of the world you live in as had some time over there in Medgia.

I have some Walnut wood that has been given me from a friend in Romania, which I understand is one of the worlds greatest grower of walnuts.

Eamonn, nice to meet you here, it's always a pleasure to find people that know few things about your place. Indeed, Romania is a wonderful place, too bad it has inhabitants! :) Let the joke aside now, yes, there are a lot of walnuts here, however, cutting them is forbidden by law, together with chestnut and few others, except for serious reasons. I'll show off my pens, although they are not so good and interesting as others' here.

I donā€™t believe for one minute that your pens arenā€™t as good as any of the others on here.
Yes, the Walnut I have from Romania was from a tree that had partially fallen and was unsafe. They had to cut it to make it safe but left the bulk of the tree up.
I was amazed by how difficult it was to get authorisation to make it safe.
Yes, Romania is a lovely place, I always found the inhabitants far easier to get on with than the French, they get so possessive over their winešŸ¤£
Especially when I like wine!

So many years ago Wilma and Me were volunteer teachers to migrants teaching English by conversation and as young and beautiful girl from Romania came to classes and sat on my lap virtually for a year or two, she was an accountant and ever so keen to learn,we signed her up at a library that specialised in her language and helped get her driving license and
shared quality time with her and her husband. She learned so fast ,a successs story from humble beginnings. I was so surprised at the protection offered to those trees in Romania

Wait to see how Romanians are aggressively possessive over "tzuica":vangry:, which is a distilate of plums (similar to Italian grappa, or German schnaps, but a different taste). Well, I assume all over the world there are such "national treasures" which might easily become a ...casus belli! :))))
