Mini lathe problem

Hi I've got a mini jet lathe jwl-1220vs that has developed a problem , it works off a Extension lead but if plug into the sockets in the workshop it trips the switch ,
can anyone help with this problem?

So it trips the breaker when you plug it directly into an outlet, but it works fine if you use an extension cord? Is that extension cord plugged into the same outlet that trips if when you try to operate the lathe directly?

Or maybe the extension lead has lost its earth

Check the supply to your workshop I had a similiar problem the earth wire had come adrift.
