Hi there everyone, I'm first off a fountain pen collector, and part time calligrapher when I get time. I'm now thinking of making my own pens as I have also made an electric guitar or 2.
I work as a printer for a medical firm so ink is around me most of the time.
At the moment I'm just getting tools together and looking at Axminster Tools for a lathe etc.
This isn't going to be a business venture but if I can sell a few I won't be complaining.

Hi, thank you for the warm welcome. Hopefully it won't be long before I have some 'Can you see what it is ' photos to show. At present I'm interested in pen turning but not kit pens so my first question is
Axminster Tools do a small set of tools for turning for £50. Any thoughts?

If it’s the miniature tool set then I wouldn’t bother.

I think the smallest gouge I use is 1/4 inch spindle and even that hardly gets touched these days.

As mentioned I’d get them as you need them, or if you want a set with pen turning in mind then I’d opt for something like a spindle roughing gouge, 1/2 inch spindle gouge, parting tool and a 3/4 inch skew (with skew being the most versatile imo).
