So, having joined the forum a few months ago i've been mucking about getting my workshop up and running. I had to de rust my woodturning lathe and clean up all my tools. Getting back into wood turning has been a joy and then learning how to use a metalworking lathe has been good too. A steep learning curve!
The reason i have more time is that i retired from flying aeroplanes. My flying course 34 years ago had sixteen members, three of whom (including myself) have now retired. I wanted to make a keepsake from that course for each member as they retire. My oak pens are beginning to get there i think but still need a little refining. I'm using pilot (!) pen gel ink rollerballs as the refill of choice and black acrylic for the tenons. I found a snakewood blank from 13 years ago and with the impetuosity of 'new to the hobby' ignorance, gave it a go. The buckey burl blanks i bought online and having cut them from a larger blank wanted to stabilise and protect and firm them. I used thin cyano which got soaked up like a sponge before going off, nearly 20g bottle for the four. Hopefully now they'll sit and wait till the workshop isn't like a large meat chiller!
Anyway, any comments, hints, critiques are all greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.
M

Ooh, good looking pens....
I like the snake wood but it's notoriously fragile so well done with that not something I'll be doing anytime soon.
I have been turning some offcuts of propellers, might be good for retired pilots(unless they flew jets)
