    Hi,

Just so much to learn. I have quickly learnt that it not just a case of bunging a piece of material onto a mandril and shaping it, There is a plethora of glues, colours, inserts, plastics etc. that (to use the verbnacular) get my head round. Thanks again.

    Cheers
    Frederick

    Hello Derek
This looks very interesting indeed. I think the grandchildren would enjoy this as well. I will make every effort to attend and have a word. I am grateful to you. Thanks.

    Cheers

    Hello Frederick.
Just go along to your local club, I've just spent nearly two hours talking about pen turning to a new member at my local club.
    (I am still learning too)
You learn more at the club from the guys that have made the mistakes, then you can decide how you want to go. Remember there is usually more than one way of getting to the end result.
    Enjoy your hobby.

    Hi again
Hope your first pen goes well.
Don't dispare if you make a mistake, we all have done that.
Find someone at your local club to talk to. It's difficult to explain sometimes what went wrong.
    Learning curve.

Thanks Dave. I made one yesterday afternoon, but as expected it did not all go to plan. I think the job is salvageable though. I was using a a piece of walnut and the finish is not good. I will give it a another go today.

    Regards

    Well First Pen Made

    IMG_0292.jpgIMG_0293.jpg

    Hi all,
First pen made and I am not too displeased with it. Tried to keep the barrels even etc.
If anyone notices anything that will improve it, please say.
Looks a bit shinier in the flesh though.
    Cheers
    Frederick.

I think I have uploaded a couple of pics.
