I have been given an axminster precision pen turning lathe which comes with a 24x1 collet and axminster evolution mandrel. I have my full size lathe as well am am finding this second small lathe is great for doing my pens. The collet system is great but I would live to be able to drill my blanks on this lathe and was wondering if anyone knows of a scroll chuck which could be fitted on this lathe. I have looked online but I don't see anything with this tread size. Could I possibly get a thread adapter to allow a scroll chuck to be used? Any thoughts?

I have one of these, and I think I'm right in saying there is no scroll chuck available to fit, at this time.

Walter wrote the review for woodturning magazine, so I'm sure he would know.

what is the largest collet that you can put on the lathe? I like to round my blank before drilling, so you can see the grain of the wood. I don't always do so, but if I have a nice blank I will.

It would be good if you could get a dedicated two jaw special chuck such as the Vicmarc I have it is superb.

Peter.

No, neither a chuck nor adapter are available in M24 x 1 which is a pity because it would be useful.

You are, I did, there isn't. Here is a link to the review: Dropbox - WT_291_94_97_KIT_&_TOOLS_vsMB.pdf

Axminster make a lot of their own stuff on site. I would have though it would be quite easy for them to make an adaptor to fit a small chuck. Probably not enough interest in one though. Any engineering company should be able to make one though at a price.
