I would go with either the 1/4" or 3/8" just to ensure you can tension them correctly. I get my blades from Tuff Saws. Tuff Saws - Quality Bandsaw Blades
As a guide for straight cuts like resawing and large curves the wider blades are better for small work which can involve tight curves then a narrower blade but it does not stop there as there are blades for cutting wet timber and dry timber. So the best thing to do is list exatly what you will want to do then phone Ian at Tuffsaws and he will willingly help with the correct one which will have the correct tooth configeration and width.

I use a 1/2 inch always does me for up to burls breakdown great for pens. I use a hardened skip tooth bi-metal they outlast conventional blades.

I use 1/2" 3 TPI blades for pen blanks.
