Yep I use it. It’s very, very resilient to handling. But using it on peppermills - maybe not. I apply 3 coats over 8 days, the first being diluted with white spirit and the other two neat. The oil is runny, so it may clog up the moving surfaces of a mill. It’s great for bowls, vases and such like. I came across wax oil as I was searching for a finish for an oak shaving set. I gave a small pen blank 3 coats with a control just bare wood. I then immersed the blank in water for 5 days and the finish was stunning. A couple of draw backs though - it needs to dry in a dust free environment, takes a while to dry and cure, can colour very light wood with a faint yellow tinge and it’s a real bu**er to get a really smooth finish. I tend to rub the final coat with 0000 wire wool for the final polish. Thought about using it for pens but I think the time frame is too long.

Let me know how you get on with your marvellous SA woods.

Regards,

Chriscb

Mark,
Well it even more expensive here. Works out at about 26 (pound - do not know to insert the symbol)

Chris,
The drying time would be a problem coupled with a dust free environment.
Your comment about getting a smooth finish also is not that good.
Think I will carry on with my normal stuff.

Mark,
You are not much help. :winking:

Cheers
Phil
