Hi guys I have finally bought my first chuck from Axminster Clubman SK80 but will Robert Sorby’s new Pen Jaws fit it? or is there something else I can use to drill on the lathe?

They won't fit, Roy. I don't know the Axminster range so can't help with that.

If you have the pen jaws and the chuck offer the jaws up to the chuck and see if the screw holes line up? I have the sorby pen jaws and they fit my nova g3 chuck so they will fit some other chucks. Hope that helps

Only the nova and sorby chucks take the jaws.

pin jaws

I drill pen blanks using the Axminster pin jaws no problems, pin jaws can be used for a variety of jobs, why waste money on limited pen jaws

I have 3 of the axminster k10 chucks and use the centre bore of most of there jaws to hold pen blanks or the step jaws you just have to line the blank up to the drill bit then tighten the jaws and drill all the K10 jaws will fit the SK80 you dont need special jaws

just checked
my C jaws will clamp up nice and square on a blank

That's the way I do it Steve. Make an indent in the end your going to drill. Put the other end in the jaws and tighten the jaws until they just grip the blank. Centre the piece up with pressure from the drill bit. Tightend the jaws up a bit more. As soon as you turn the lathe on start to press the drill bit into the wood
