Been asked about engravings on pens by a friend.
2 questions?
1) How easy is it
2) Would pyrography be better than engraving?

Dremel would be fine for acrylic with the right tip, Pyro would be great for wood. It's not that hard really I managed it so anybody can.

Any machine that uses flat burning nibs seems like I am promoting Woody tonight but his burning on bowl bottoms is neat and well done as an example IMHO.

Yes, Woody's pyrography is second to none from the example he has shown on the forum:thumbs:

I've just sent 3 pens to be laser engraved, £2:50 each with out the hassle, I told the buyer that it would be extra, no issues.

Our local craft shop charges £1.00 per minute for laser cutting.
However we use a lot of Traffolite labels at work and the boss has decided to invest in an engraver :thinks:
It will only be a mechanical one, not laser. But he has decided to put me in charge of the engraving:ciggrin: the fool does he realise what he has done? :rolling:
Guess who will be experimenting in the new year

I wish you had said that 5 years ago when I got one, you're 100% right crappy things they are.
I still think engraving pens is a silly idea cheapening the art to novelty level but people will have it done.
Engrave the box is so much nicer leaving a perfect pen inside.
I used to have pens engraved as giveaways for my old company something stupid when on a promotion like £40.00 per thousand.
That maybe what puts me off, if anyone asks me to engrave a pen I tell them to take it to Timpsons then bring it back for refinishing

For pens - all of them! if you manage to pyro a pen with legible lettering that is a proffesional looking job, i'll eat several hats, and a fair percentage of the wifes wardobe as well.

This sounds like a fantastic competition Neil.... who can pyro a pen with legible lettering? the prize is to watch Neil eat a had or two and a wardrobe...:funny:

Would you like salt and pepper Neil? :funny::funny::funny::funny:

I think Walter may be up for that challenge.
I believe he engraved a pen some time ago and then erased it and reworked the barrel :thinks:
If not he will probably put me right
