That's a nice turned piece Frank, Iroko? I don't know, All the Iroko I've got has a straight grain. But having said that, it looks the right colour. :thumbs:

A closer picture would be good but it sure looks like genuine Teak, a timber that was hugely popular (and available!) in the 20s.

Iroko smells awful Frank very definitive stink, did this have an unpleasant aroma when you turned it? I also find it's the one timber that affects my sinuses.

Very nice bowl :thumbs:

A great looking bowl. Not being any good at wood ID can't really say what it is but I have turned Iroko and it certainly did not look anything like this, and as Doug said Iroko has a smell that once turned never forgotten

Smell can be a great identification tool. As has been mentioned, Iroko has an unpleasant, irritating dusty smell but teak by contrast is not dusty and has a very pleasant smell, rather like old leather.

hi sorry for the late response i have lots of iroko blanks
but not bowl sized it has a smell to it so i think it could be I thought it was
but i thought id sak will take some pics soon.
