It was from a cultivated garden rose Peter. It was an already quite spherical with the roots coming out at all angles.

Ali dug it out from a clients garden. They've just had a glass atrium built along the rear of their property, and the garden is being re modelled. She brought the root home rather than bin it because she knows me so well!

How romantic Neil you get her roses and she give you a rose root ball probably from the rose bush you nicked the roses from in the first place
