    More firewood!
Found this Berberis in the burning pile last week. 5" x 2" approx.

Then found this piece of Beech today. 6" x 3" approx

I can't decide whether to be a good example, or a horrible warning!

Especially interesting to see the berberis Neil. I kept some a while back but I failed to season it properly, and really did turn into nothing more than firewood in my case. Your's must have been quite some shrub to get a bowl that size out of it.

The main trunk bit was about 7" across with many splits even though it had been sawn to remove the pith. there was seven branches emerging from that that had all split wide open direct to the pith. I had to wrap the outside to be able to hollow without it flying apart!

The options with Berberis are growing, splitting, or split!
