If you gopod folk can help i am seeking advice on gluing pen blanks, 1st which glue do you use, how long do you clamp it together and how do you plane it? Do i need to do anything extra when i mount it on the lathe. This is for segmenting the full lenght of the blanks not adding pieces to glue together.

Take a guess
My timber gets planed on machines, makes life easy.

I use any branded PVA for glue ups, I get through quite a lot with work so tend to buy what`s on offer when I`m placing an order, I`m always cautious of non brand PVA but that`s more to do with not wanting glue to fail on a paying job.
Time span for work left in clamps is dependant on how warm it is, 2-3 hours min, but to be honest most gets left over night.

A pen blank being clamped up this time using Resin W.

All i have ever used for segmenting pens is medium CA, all with good results. I can't give you a set time for setting as when i make these blanks it could be days or weeks before i turn them ... I just bought a drum sander that i will be using in the future and may start looking at other glues rather than the CA ... :nooidea:

I use CA gel on some and leave about 4Hrs but mostly Epoxy and leave same time before the next glue up and over night before using I'm doing Celtic knots at the present.
