I've bought a few pen kits just recently and the quality has been reasonable to cheap and nasty even though the cost doesn't reflect it. One kit I got from Axminster is so cheap looking I won't even bother using it quite frankly.

Today I received the BMPK kit from Taylors Mirfield and what a difference. The quality of this kit is far above anything else I've bought so far. It's going to be a pleasure to put some wood on it when I get round to it!

Both Dan 'TM' and our Phil 'Beaufort' have been trying to improve the quality of pen kits....try the new Beaufort Sirroco too:drool:

The Shakespear pens I have seen are excellent examples of workmanship, being able to buy shiny or matte quite a change these days.

Hi George.....yes Honestly its Moose poo or nuget as they prefer to call it....its been cleaned? and compacted ....turned very nice too, no bad smell either:ciggrin:

I got mine from 'Classic nib' in the US...:face:
TBH its fairly safe.....the guy collects the nuggets and then steralises it befor stabalising and casting

I guess it's a poor day when you don't learn something new. One of my former students (now a middle-age adult) is a taxidermist for a living. I don't think she can live without a pen from one of these blanks. She specializes in large mammals, but I think she's more accustomed to working with the other end...
