Today I had the pleasure of meeting Bill Mooney, who via this forum offered to share some of his wisdom with me. I made the trip to his home and spent nearly four hours in his company. Bill covered all the areas needed to turn. Which are the best tools for different jobs, how to sharpen them and check the angles all the way through to finishing techniques. This was followed by a turning lesson, which has left me in ore of the man. Not only has he helped me with my technique but he has boosted my confidence no end. This is a nice simple pen that Bill supervised me making.

Thank you for giving up your afternoon and for welcoming into your home and indeed your workshop. It was lovely to meet you and your wife and I wish you both good health for the future. Your an amazing person and a true Gent.

Craig it was an enjoyable afternoon in enjoyable company. You are welcome anytime. I didn’t want you coming over to watch me demonstrate my skills, I wanted you to experience what a difference a little guidance can make & I’m pleased you enjoyed yourself. You are thanking me but I owe you a very big thank you for the very kind donation you left for Blind Veterans UK it is very much appreciated.
All in all a great afternoon which ended all too soon.
It’s up to you now, practice, practice & more practice. Enjoy your turning mate.

Great to see that our hobby contributes to friendships being created as well as "items". Well done to you, Bill, for sharing your knowledge and experience - and to you too Craig for seeking that knowledge and telling the rest of us about it. Respect!

I endorse what you say about Bill, he freely gives his time and help Craig. How he manages so much in that tiny workshop always amazes me.

Good on ya Bill marra.
