assembly problem

Had a problem yesterday that I haven't had before, 2 streamline pens that I was assembling had loose top caps, not really sure how this happened but can only assume that I have somehow oversized the end of the brass tube, nibs were fine & so is the fit on the twist mechanism.
Although I am still new(ish) to this I have made & assembled enough pens now that if it were anything else I think I would have seen it before, both really nice cross grain wood so not something I want to chuck out after all the work, is there anything I can do about this.
Only thing I could think of was to glue them in lol

Glue is the answer Martin. Depending on how much you paid for the kits, the problem is probably factory quality control rather than anything else. It happens from time to time I'm afraid. CA is your friend in these instances.

There are variations in Slimlines all the time,if the slack is too great other measures but like Phil said CA can be your friend.

As advised Martin CA. be very careful when applying, just enough in all the right places only.

Thanks people, thought that would probably be the answer lol

Peter I think it is more likely to be something I have done, if it were factory issues then I would expect to see other issues as well, the rest of the kits were fine, it was only 2 pens & then only the cap on these 2 pens, I did try a couple of other caps to see if it was maybe the caps but the others I tried were the same & then fitted other blanks I had.

Almost certain it is operator error as it is in many cases

I have had this problem. As Phil says, CA thick. and it worked ok for me.

I do reject heaps of Slimline tubes,when I abrade the outside I hold the tubes with a metal rod. I call it my go no go guage if they are far out I belt them in the bin. When I first started I bought 300 spare tubes and thereafter a lot more. I measure every pen part,discrepancies occur. Best to find out early rather than late. Also I check every drill for overs and unders even the best of them vary,a drill plate can be your best friend. I used to make 100 at a time in a series of cutting up blanks,drilling them gluing them etc no need for so many any more. Attended a lecture from a specialist on how to introduce dialisis into ones routine,scary to me stuff. Kinda reduces small probs with pens to very minor for me.
