Hi Guys
I bought a long length of 27/64 tube along with a couple of other sizes to replace tubes that went wrong due to blowouts etc.
Anyway, I had a couple of sirocco kits to makeup but no tubes so I cut the correct length off my long piece of 27/64 and glued them up, etc. I turned the blanks and finished them. My problem is I can push the sirocco fitting into the tubes by hand and pull them out again easily. I measured the outside of the tube they are 10.43 the tubes that come with the kits is 10.33. Anyone else encountered this I have used some nice OAK blanks that are now no good. What's left of the length of the brass tube is also no good to me.:sob:

It's the difference between Taiwanese tubes and Chinese tubes. The Sirocco is supplied with a Taiwanese tube.

When the Chinese, arch copiers that they are, got their grubby hands on the Sierra, (which is the tube that the Sirocco is compatible with, and which originally also comes from Taiwan) they made the tube fractionally bigger. Why, I don't know, but it's always a problem when folks buy pre-cast tubed blanks and aftermarket spare tubes. Fortunately though, the solution is very easy, in that a spot of CA on the component tenons will solve the problem for you Dave.

I have measured some tubes from various kits and the wall thickness seems to vary, or is it my imagination.
I think the average is 0.5mm but have seen them with walls as thin as 0.35mm.
Don't suppose that helps fitting much.

Cheers

I'm sure Beaufort have them. I've bought some 10 or 12" 27/64 tubes before and i'm pretty much sure it was from Phil.
Solution to you're problem as Phil says is to use a tiny amount of CA.

I bought another couple of lengths of 27/64" tube and I have the same problem. The kit fittings can be pushed in by hand and pulled out by hand easily. I guess I will not be able to reuse the kits I have no tubes for. Oh well, I will be very careful choosing blank material in the future. :rolling:

Problem solved I came across a bag of tubes then I remembered where they came from I ordered some made up label blanks for some sirocco kits. Because I didn't need to use the original tubes I put them all in a bag. So I have enough tubes to complete my pens.:thumbs:
