so and CA or not

As the title suggests I'm in two minds of what to do.

lets start at the beginning I have what I believe is oak bur that I started to turn with the vision of mixing some colour into some two part epoxy to fill in the gaps in the wood.

BUT after turning to within mm's of the bushings I only have one small area that needs to be filled so do I carry on with my first plan or just fill with CA glue. Now I was just going to have a wax finish on this pen and not a high gloss finish.

So what would you do

PS the kit is a fountain pen by Sedona in gold if that helps
and the gap is in the cap end

I dont like filling with glue and dust it comes out in the wash!! literally; I use shellac sticks to fill small voids. Shellac Filler Sticks: Furniture and Interior Woodwork Retouch and Revive | Liberon wood cares actually, living in France I use another manufacturer but they are all similar, I actually use these and they come in about 10 different colours which can be used to make blends of colours for wood. dont worry about the language if you are really interested send me an email and I will translate but they give you an idea. You apply them with heat, make the stick drip into the void and apply a hot iron to smooth into the void then turn and finish as wood.

The aim is to use the products that cabinet makers have use over centuries instead of 'make dos 'which don't 'quite' work.

I Didn't even think of shellac sticks I do own wax sticks I have use in the past in kitchen fitting would they work ( I have many colours) if not I will buy some shellac sticks

They will work but as in all things soft wax they will melt at a lower temperature than shellac so you need to keep in mind the heat of hands and when people leave pens on radiators and on sunny window sills where there is a chance of the wax melting out.

I use a small modelling blowlamp to melt my shellac sticks to dripping point (be careful shellac can flame up) then I heat to just below red hot the end of a 10cm steel rule to smooth and press it into the void. Once in there and finished it becomes pretty solid. Best of luck.

Thank you Pierre it doesn't matter on this pen as all the oak has split and come off so I'm restarting my Oak Bur pen (first time turning Bur) Think I was pushing from end of blank to the center but I think I should turn from the center out wards with my skew chisel and speed up my Lathe think it was running at 1700mrpm (number 6)
