This is my first Mistral ballpoint pen from Beaufort Ink. The wood I used is either Ebony or African Blackwood, I'm not sure which. The finish is CA. It's a lovely quality pen kit.

Thank you everyone. I don't know about others but I always find that simple lines, together with very dark/black plain wood and a gloss finish are the least forgiving and the most difficult to get to the standard I want.

Well you've certainly achieved success with this one Derek. A fine looking piece of work indeed.

(I can't be certain, but I would say African Blackwood by the way, rather than ebony. I'm basing that on the interaction between heartwood and sapwood - the demarcation tends to be more abrupt on ebony in my experience).

Thank you, that's interesting Phil, I suppose it doesn't really matter in the end but It would be nice to know. The only clues I've got are that it gives off a kind of smoked aroma and a fine black dust that gets in your pores when turning.
