So in the UK, we have very small pine cones....I was getting jealous of all these nice big American ones, so I thought screw it, anything they can do, we can do just as well thank you very much!!!

Nice story behind this one, went to a friends Reveal party (apparently another American thing where a couple are having a baby, but they pop a non transparent balloon with either pink or blue confetti in it so everyone finds out together what gender the baby is), anyway our friends had painted some pine cones blue and pink and you were supposed to take which colour you thought the baby was gonna be, I guessed wrong so at the end of the party, I gathered up all the pink ones, and made this as a present for the little girl to be!!

Least to say as I was turning it, the thing blew out on me 5 times and I had to repair with superglue and sawdust but it all turned out ok in the end!

What a story to tell. Here where pine cones abound in every size and shape the opportunities abound. A beaut present for the young one.

My Chinese friend expecting her baby is not allowed any form of information re the sex of the unborn by law.

The pine cones in my garden are more than big enough at 2.5" - 3", some in the woods behind my home are 5-6inches long.

That looks great. Did you put it in resin or just turn, what was the process?

No resin, just turned it raw, although as I said, it blew on me about 5 times where one of the flakes took off and showed bare brass, so I packed it with superglue and sawdust and hoped for the best, I don't think you can tell.

The process starts by taking about 6 pine cones, and chopping all the fleshey stuff off, and you're left with about a 2cm square core of the cone, do that with all of them, glue and clamp them together, square off, drill, glue tube in, turn, repair, turn, repair, turn, repair, turn, repair, ca finish, hey presto!!
