This is one I made for the upcoming Maple Festival in Andover, New York. Maple syrup is a popular agricultural product in this part of the State, and the Andover Lions Club has been sponsoring this event for over forty years - the profits from the festival help them support a variety of Lions causes, particularly in the area of eye sight health. This pen features a Canadian Sierra kit in brushed pewter to simulate the galvanized sap buckets that line the village streets every spring. The maple leaf decorative band and stabilized maple burl seemed to round out the theme. Helping empty buckets into a tank on a wagon and boil sap in the sugar house remain some of my fondest childhood memories.

Great pen and triggered a great memory for me too. I was at the state fair and remember all the maple products, not just syrup but butter and sugar and sweets and so many grades of syrup I'm salivating at the though of it!

Oh, dear Lord - Maple CREAM is at the core of my existence! Andover happens to be my home town (ACS Class of '81), and I will be selling pens there at this show - and back in that school for the first time in I don't know how many decades. As kids, we followed the wagon around town and helped empty buckets. Then we helped boil sap. There were always eggs boiling in the sap for a snack, and a hard boiled egg boiled in maple sap is a delicacy known to few, brother. People who have never tasted real maple syrup (not maple-flavored corn syrup) are missing a special treat. Every region of the world has its own "special thing," right? Spending a day in a sugar shack (with plenty of beer) and solving the world's problems...it just doesn't get any better. BTW - I am giving that pen to the Andover Lions. I am a Lion myself, and I know those guys will turn that pen into something important for someone with problems. The only problem I have tonight is that I am not in a sugar shack.

A lovely pen Greg and I love the back story around it - obviously going to a great cause (my wife is a teacher of children with visual impairment or blindness). Good luck with the event.
