They are very nice Peter, did you make the blanks yourself?

Thanks, yes I made the blanks, they are quite involved, unlike the big ones in the Youtube Vid that Brian posted. They have to be soaked in water to close them up, then squared off on the bandsaw, then copious amounts of CA to keep it closed drilled with an undersized hole to aid in drying. When dry copious amounts of CA into the hole to hopefully glue it all together from the inside. When turning you will see how well the CA penetrated or not and keep adding more where needed to keep it all closed. I have a pair of blanks that I have used luminous powder as an infill in the empty seed pockets, looking forward to finishing them.

Apologies to you I didn't realize you had done them yourself, that makes them all the more remarkable.
I have tried and failed with dried pine cones from the golf course ended up leaving them open and casting them in clear acrylic.
More bother than it was worth, I respect your persistence with them certainly worth the effort in your case.

When I made the first two blanks and finished the pen, I thought it was far too much trouble to go to and won't bother with anymore, but I have had over 25 people want to buy them. I have about 12+ prepared blanks and more soaking in water ready to be prepared. If you would like a few I will get them in the post to you.

I may have found a source of larger cones, mine are from a Corsican Pine in the neighbours garden, but there is more of the tree overhanging our garden than over theirs.
