For a while I've been wrestling with a way to make an all-wood kitless pen. (I only like to work with wood, no offense to acrylic.) This has gone some way toward answering the question. It uses the tubes, nib and feed, and section and cap threads from a Gents pen, but that's about it. Notice the wooden clip - my wife is having kittens about me selling these things and the clips snapping off left, right and centre. Looks pretty cool, though, huh?

Also the wooden grip on the section. It's not great - it's turned off-centre so is forcing the cap to cross-thread. Will have to re-turn it ... Oh, and the segmentation I'm calling AdAstra. (Any calls for a step-by-step pictorial on it?) It's ALL walnut, the white wood is sapwood while the rest is heartwood. Once I'm confident I can make these without problems I'll cut into my exotic stash (courtesy of Jim).

I got the idea from this article by Richard Kleinhenz, although it has my own unique flavour (mostly to fix messes I made as I went along)!

C&C welcome.

That is a classy pen David, how long did this take to make? A tutorial for us less skilled would be super:bwink: when you find the time of course.

The pen looks excellent David.

I know that it takes allot of time to make the pen of your dreams but you have gone a long way to prove the it can be done fairly easily. I mean crow and a half hours work, apposed to several hours.

I have made a few kit less pens over the years and this has encouraged me to make a few more kit less pens. Again.

Well dome keep up the hard work,,

A lot of work, painstakingly and beautifully carried out. I share concerns about the clip, but the almost complete total wood is perhaps worth it. I have made this style before but not with segments and I have used the standard clip but punched the contrasting colour metal disc out of the pen top and replaced that with a matching disc of the wood, but if you do that make sure that you get the grain in the right direction.

Nicely done, not a criticism but hopefully a constructive comment, is there anyway you think you can build a bit more style in terms of the shape into the pen?

Neil, its funny you should say that! That's probably the biggest issue I have with it, it's shaped like a cigar! Yes, I think there's plenty of scope for styling, once I'm comfortable with the process. There are a couple points along the barrel where thickness is critical, but that doesn't prevent a little more creativity than was displayed here ...
