Dyed box elder burl

This is box elder burl (also called Burr Manitoba Maple) died with ordinary food coloring from the grocer. It is on a titaniam gold sierra.

Does the dye dry quickly? Any tips?
I might have a go at that as my wife decorates cakes for a hobby so there is a few colours I could play with...:thinks:

Thats a nice looking pen Sharon but personally I wouldn't dye a lovely piece of burr. How and at what stage do you apply the dye. Will it take a finish of WTF.
