Another blank that i had given a long time ago not knowing what it was so a few weeks ago i turned it and placed on a Gold Plated Omega fountain pen, last weekend i used the Hut Crystal Coat as the finish for the second time .. Not sure about it to be honest, i certainly wouldn't put it on a quality blank ..

Lovely blank, making a great pen
The "Hut Crystal Coat" doesn't seem to have done it any favours though :nooidea:
Seems a better finish could be got with CA or Friction polish etc. :whistling:

It's a very nice blank and kit Jim but I think the finish detracts from the quality of the pen.

Nicely turned pen Jim but it does look a little dull, I've used the Hut Crystal Coat on almost every pen I have made that as not had a CA finish and generally I have been very happy with it.

i have to say, i like it
i struggle sometimes to stick with a particular finish
so many times do we try and get the shiny finish
point in question is the ring box some of u may have seen
i had it laser engraved at york
i have tried most finishes we have all at hand
can i get it to shine...f3ck no
it has been finished and sanded back so many times now
still cant perfect..luck of the wood grain \ oil content etc

i only have about 1mm of the laser cut left and still trying to get a good finish

someone will come up with a magic finish but until then i guess we have to accept not all woods shine

To be honest Jim I used the hut products for years and I prefer it to CA so to me its a very nice pen just maybe a bit more polish on it would give it a deeper shine if thats what you want

Looks Ok to me Jim, not every finish is supposed to shine.
I wouldn't be happy if it didn't sine but that's just me init?
I tend to stick with ca (pun init?) on small items that can be be finished on the lathe.
Bigger items, boxes etc. I use French Polish and build a goodly few coats to a high gloss.

A lovely pen nevertheless Jim. I like high shine finish I get with ca and find it so quick and easy to do I'm not really interested in trying other things... There, now I've said it. :funny:

It looks nice enough, but I think CA would make it look much nicer.
