Been away for a week or so on our hols to Somerset. Got back and straight into the shed to make this pair. Chap who runs the local off licence knows I've started to make a few pens and asked me to make these for a special birthday pressie. Always pays to keep in the good books of a man that sells alcohol  A Zeta ballpoint pen and Omega fountain pen. Both made from 900 year old Royal Brown Oak from Windsor Great Park. The fountain pen also has an upgraded Bock nib.

This oak turns very differently to normal oak. Slightly brittle - a bit like some spalted wood. I it needs careful turning with a very sharp skew to prevent chipping or ripping.

Both looking great  what finish did you go for?

A microcrystalline wax to begin with. I felt the wood wanted a softer finish not a more plastic CA finish. So it had some layers of a softer wax to soak in first, then was finished with multiple layers of HUT PPP wax.
