Peter,
I hope you will forgive me for being botanically pedantic, but Amboyna is not a Rosewood. Amboyna is the Burr of the Pterocarpus species, of which one is Padauk.
Many on this forum may be aware, and some not that true Rosewoods are those of the Dalbergia species, others erroneously called Rosewoods are normally so called to boost their commercial return, notably Santos Rosewood (aka Bolivian Rosewood) technically Machaerium scleroxylon, Bocote, aka Mexican Rosewood, Cordia species, Tiete Rosewood (Guibourtia hymenaeifolia), Caribean Rosewood, aka Checchen or Black Poisonwood. There are many others but these arent rosewoods at all.
Good for you mate I only know what I am told re the location and proper names of imported timber I know you have a different approach this timber is not Dalbergia i do know where my Dalbergia comes from because I have had great sources. So many timbers are referred to as Oak but have no family relationship but bear common names.
I had the privilige for many years working with top line botanists widely published and in my own way decided to name blanks as I have bought them my great pleasure comes from the beauty and the opportunity to make them into pens.
Did you like the pen mate.
Peter.
