I'm still not that impressed with the results at the moment, I would like the bits that shouldn't be etched to stay shiny so may try something else other than a sharpie... maybe nail varnish?

Have you tried mod podge or the like maybe glue gliter pens
Would work as a shroud ...but I like the look its got akind of hammered brass copper pot
Feel well done.

Ah, mod Podge might work... I've ordered a pen that Neil suggested so if that doesn't work then Mod Podge would be the next port of call.
