I was asked to make a pair of pens from burr Oak and ended up making 5 to try and get a good match.

This is one of the joys of being a member on this site - to see pens of this calibre. I often use the term "heirloom pen" to describe a pen that deserves to be passed on through the ages from family member to family member, and here's five more that qualify for that distinction! Splendid work, Paul!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You've not mentioned if these were stabilised. If so, did they go deeper in shade during the process or is this their natural hue?

Bob.

They were stabilised Bob. I added a bit of black dye to the resin so they will be a bit darker but not too much. Even though they were stabilised, there were still several holes that needed to be filled during turning that I did by sanding with ca on the wood to make a slurry after having filled the larger ones with dust first.

Thank you all for the fantastic comments but they are no better than anything anyone else can make given time and a bit of patience

As usual Paul, what we have become to expect from the PM stable.

I would have accepted that you couldn't count., or " I was enjoying it so much before I knew it there was 5". :funny:
