Just completed. Sierra transmission, brass nib and finial turned form brass rod. Clip hand made from brass sheet - hacksaw, files and abrasive (and lots of patience). The clip could be better finished but I am reasonably happy with it as a first try.

Looks like fun to do polished brass accepts a clear coat of powder coating. I approached a firm here and he put a part it in with another batch.

Like your care with the clip beaut idea.

Peter.

at last somebody showing some ingenuity and skill, may not be perfect but it's the best effort I have seen and I applaud it.

That's pretty amazing! Do you have any photos of the process?

I always intend to do that but get carried away with the process.:rolling: Must do it next time. Basically, the sierra transmission is threaded into a short piece of brass and threadlocked in. That is a tight fit (and Locktited) down a wide brass tube which extends part way down the body. The lower part of the body has an 8mm tube to take the nib (also Locktite). The wide tube is left proud at the top for a good reason. The cap has 8mm tube to hold the tranny to turn it and the brass ring is turned to fit over the protruding body tube to ensure neat location with no wobble. The cap finial has a stub section to fit into the 8mm and the clip (I puzzled over this one) is formed from brass sheet, gently hammered into shape with a lug filed to fit into a hole in the clip stub. The top of the cap is then ground to take the clip so that it fits smoothly (more or less!).
I invent as I go along - problem solving on the hoof :praying: It took so much time that no-one could afford to buy it :rolling: But it's fun

A good first go. It may not be 100% perfect in your eyes but at least you had a go which is more than I have done. The wood blank I think does not do your other work justice
