thats one nice pen. Question:- how do you hold the closed end on the lathe to turn it. :thinks:

I measured a 120 mm blank, drilled down 65 mm .
I placed the blank on a shortened pen mandrel with the Omega bushing in place. the rear end of the blank was secured using a revolving tailstock.
I turned the pen down to required shape and polished , i then parted off the pen and removed revolving tailstock
I then secured the bushing and pen blank to the mandrel with tape and sanded off the end before finally shaping and finishing with abranet.
I also have a BIG Grabber MT1 Mandrel on order from PSI which will only reduce the need for the tape to finish the pen.
I will take photos next time , but i am sure Grumps has posted the same technique in the past

Like the shape of the pen ,the colour and ideas. It reminds me in many ways of a real cigar shape had my last smoke in 1962 (60 a day).

Bacote timber has a full range of colour and grain this pen shows that well.Judging by the length did you fit a long filler to the pen?.

Peter.

While I appreciate the effort of making a closed end pen I'm not sure I like it on the Omega. I do see one advantage. You can make the barrel longer to find your hand better without screwing the cap on to the back end.

Nice one Johnny, yes a very similar method to what I do, I can't remember taping anything that's only where we differ I think.

Must look at these revolving tailstock's though I have never heard of them, I use a removable revolving center in mine.:rolling:

A goodly shaped pen using a real blank, looks like the forums are picking up again with the recent posts init?
