Our local pub has been undergoing a superb restoration including the fitting of oak panelling and a lot of bespoke oak furniture. I managed to scrounge a few off cuts and have made a few pens out of it, including a fountain pen for the owner. I won't bore you with pictures of all of them but here are a few. Finished in Craft Coat ( before I read Walter's caution about it) with a bit of micro crystalline wax just for display. The others have all been snapped up so I must be doing something right.

A nice trio of well finished pens Allen ..

A guy today gave me some Oak cut offs from some of the large pieces that he bought from a Church renovation, he said that it was over 100 years old, but no proof of this .. :thinks:

Allen fine examples of real pens, the first pic intrigued me seeming impossible layout. I tend and use burl offcuts because they provide a hold for angled pens.

I join with others to say they are the finest Oak pens I have seen. I am sure Oak is dense enough to create its own patina with use.

Peter.

They look very nice Allen, I think oak is underrated for pen turning and these show why we should use it more often, they look like real bits of wood, they look well finished but I feel as if I could still get splinter of of them.:thumbs:
