An exercise in fulfillment for me one of my early loves this timber. In the burl form it is getting rare. Since the tree grows but mm,s a year the pieces came from a weather downed tree of great height the 2000 yrs may be conservative.

Huon pine has an indefinable perfume created by the tree to repel insects successfully. A friend sold 4 tons of it he bought for furniture use thirty five years ago in plain grain because the smell was overpowering in his workshop.

I think I have a new source to be confirmed in a couple of weeks .

A native tree only grows in Tasmania south of the mainland in rain forest. Travelling through this country is eerie and majestic, such a history involved. No bark inclusions were cut out during the turning of the top:winking:

The master strikes again stunning Peter a very nice piece of wood and you have created a splendid pen with a nice worm finish with it my friend and thank you for the info on the wood

I agree with all the previous comments, it's a wonderful piece of wood for some unknown reason it reminds of cheese

It's a great pen Peter and your right about the smell ! I was lucky enough to come by some of these blanks and the smell is gorgeous. In my view it tops Thuya and that is pretty special :thumbs::thumbs:
