Alan one suggestion is to lift the pen one end on something,take pics as you turn the pen around so you can choose a view that shows t what you set out to do. Any sheet of copy printer paper (I use 11X14 inch size) even laid flat if you photograph from an angle above the pen and to get sharpness keep the pen at right angles to the camera. I use a hunt and shoot camera,it takes me fully five minutes using repitition ,no acadamy award composition. Lately I have just used one view I used to show up to six to show there are no major flaws ,not hiding anything. A simple (really simple open box). as with a light either side restricted to showing across and behind with a strip light above. Mine is in the lounge where it is in a corner ready to go at a moments notice. This pic shows my open box 3/4 inch conduit cut with a cutter used by this ex sparrkie me but available in hardware stores for a beaut square clean cut. Use conduit or small water pipe and push on fittings. No excuses now cheap as chips. Lights from the hardware store as used by builders new style lamps,do it step by step,sneak up and cure your itch to show your pens. Good luck mate.

Thanks Peter I need photography input, and appreciate yours.
I have been using my wife's ipad to take photos and they tend to be a bit blurry. What camera do you use?
I got advice from Glen about a resizing site so I can now ( 10 minutes ago ) crop pictures and tweak the colour a bit.
Thanks for taking the time on your advice, that will help me and I joined this site for help, which includes critiques.
I have taken a photo of a scroll saw intarsia picture and will put it in the forum.

Hi Alan we just viewed your wonderful horse,loved it.I know and you know the collar has to be in real life lower down the body but I reassured Wilma it was representative and fully in keeping denoting the work horse title.

My camera Is a Fuji,you can buy them cheap as to set aside for pen and intarsia pics I also use it to take quick pics using the small inbuilt flash. Viewing uses the back screen.

I'm getting some photography tips from your mate penpal and hopefully my photos will improve. I think that I will have to put my hand in my pocket and buy a camera next.

I still remember my late father farming with the horse well into the 50's before he was able to buy a "wee grey Fergie "
I'm sure you and Wilma have fond memories.
When driving from Orange to Forbes one day we stopped to watch a farmer harrowing with a team of 6 horses. What a sight.
